To mark the opening of Yuki Tsukiyama: Exhibition 2026 in the Main Gallery, TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY is pleased to present the archive exhibition Yuki Tsukiyama: Ten Years of Thunder .

The Wallraf-Richartz Museum and Corbeu Foundation in Cologne, Germany, boasts one of the finest and largest collections in Europe, with approximately 70,000 paintings ranging from the Middle Ages to Post-Impressionism. Its origins trace back to 1824 when Ferdinand Franz Wallraf, a professor of theology at the University of Cologne, bequeathed his collection. The museum opened in 1861 with a donation from businessman Johann Heinrich Richards. Having overcome damage during World War II, it has a history of expanding its collection through the efforts of its citizens. In 2001, it moved to a new building, and at the same time, the Corbeu Foundation donated Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, further enriching its collection. With the aim of making the exhibition "Van Gogh's Drawbridge and Impressionist Painters: Collections from the Wallraf-Richartz Museum" accessible even to those unfamiliar with art, this guide will provide explanations of the exhibited works, incorporating basic knowledge about Impressionism and its influences, to help you enjoy the exhibition more deeply.

TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY is pleased to present “Exhibition 2026,” a solo exhibition by Yuki Tsukiyama in the Main Gallery. Concurrently, the Viewing Room will hold the archival exhibition “Yuki Tsukiyama: Ten Years of Thunder.” Approximately eleven years ago, as Tsukiyama was approaching his 40th birthday and gallery director Matsuo his 50th, Tsukiyama proposed a project that would lead to a solo exhibition every year for the following decade. Since then, each exhibition has been composed of works created from a wide variety of materials. The first exhibition featured paint it flood, a series of paintings created by repeatedly layering paint bought at a hardware store until each of ten cans, in ten different colors, had been completely used up. These ten colors subsequently became the thematic colors for each year. From the second year onward, he worked with a variety of materials, including wood, metal, paint, and discarded plaster casts. Almost all of these materials were encountered by chance, captivated by their particular qualities, he expanded upon the possibilities they suggested, transforming them into works with a powerful presence while preserving their inherent character. Shigeru Izumi (1922–1995) is one of the leading artists who helped shape the development of contemporary printmaking in postwar Japan. As a central member of the Demokrato Artists Association, founded in 1951, he pursued artistic freedom and experimentation while actively engaging in printmaking alongside his painting practice. Izumi began working in etching in 1953 and began researching and producing lithographs in 1955. In 1957, he received the New Artist Encouragement Award at the First Tokyo International Print Biennale, an achievement that brought him widespread recognition. His prints, characterized by lyrical imagery based on motifs such as birds, human figures, and animals and by light lines, were highly acclaimed for their unique blend of humor and poetic sensibility.

hitoto will be hosting its first solo exhibition by woodworker Ryota Nishimoto. — From the Exhibitor It has been a long time since I made it a habit to take pictures while walking around town. I am always drawn to shop logos and marks, and their thickness is one of the points I look at. When I find that something designed on two sides has become a shop sign or something similar, existing as a three-dimensional object with a certain thickness, I always look at it from the side as well. We are pleased to announce a joint exhibition by sisters Sakura Tamagawa, who is based in Sapporo, and Non Tamagawa, who is based in Tokyo. This will be their fourth exhibition at NPP, and their first in four years. Using "Dream Beach," the name of their local beach, as a keyword, the exhibition will feature works themed around summer, the sea, and dreams. Sakura Tamagawa | Painter, Illustrator. Born in Hokkaido. After working in Tokyo, she moved to Sapporo in 2021. While primarily active in exhibitions, she also provides illustrations for books and products both domestically and internationally. She expresses the diverse ways in which various creatures live their lives. Non Tamagawa | Born in Hokkaido, currently residing in Tokyo. Despite her busy life, she creates paintings and sculptures themed around "the visible," "the invisible," and the ambiguous realm between them.

MPC is a travel circle formed by actor Taiga Nakano, TV director Ryohei Kamide, and photographer Yusuke Abe. Born in late-night New York, they share their raw and hilarious travel experiences through their book "MIDNIGHT PIZZA CLUB 1st BLAZE LANGTANG VALLEY," which documents their trip to the Langtang Valley in Nepal, as well as through podcasts featuring travel audio and photo exhibitions.

The National Museum of Art, Osaka opened in 1977 in the former Expo Museum of Fine Arts, located within Expo ’70 Commemorative Park in Suita, Osaka Prefecture. The museum relocated to a new building on Nakanoshima in 2004, and in 2027 it will mark its 50th anniversary. As that milestone approaches, the 2026 collection exhibition spans two installments, drawing on the museum’s own holdings to revisit developments in art, and the social and historical conditions that shaped them, in the years leading up to the museum’s opening. The museum has positioned itself as an institution focused on contemporary art, collecting and exhibiting Japanese and international works produced primarily from 1945 to the present. The collection, however, also includes works made prior to this period. Every past age was, in its own time, contemporary, and the art of today is built on the thought and creativity accumulated over that long succession of present moments.

Hitoto will be hosting Mari Tanimoto's third solo exhibition, her first in approximately five years. — From the Exhibitor I love looking at old craft books and often browse through them. One day, I found a craft book from the early Showa era called "Needle Walk" at an online used bookstore. The katakana characters translated in my mind as "Needle Walk." "Needle" and "steps"... I thought it was a nice phrase. I felt a sense of steady, unhurriedness, like moving the needle at walking speed, poking it one stitch at a time. It seemed to represent crafts and the act of making something itself, and I thought I'd like to use it as the title of an exhibition someday. (Later, I learned that "Needle Walk" means "Needle Work.") My second child was born at the end of last year. As expected, I can't make time as easily as I'd like. I'm really working on my creations little by little, sewing them into the gaps in my daily life. Stitch by stitch, knit by knit, stroke by stroke. The word "mystery" encompasses meanings such as enigma, wonder, enigma, and strangeness. This exhibition introduces the collections of seven Hyogo Prefectural museums (Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History, Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo Prefectural Archaeological Museum, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Archaeology Kasai Branch Ancient Mirror Exhibition Hall, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Ceramic Art, Yokoo Tadanori Museum of Contemporary Art, and this museum), including works by Higashiyama Kaii (1908-1999), Yokoo Tadanori (1936-), and Odilon Redon (1840-1916), through the lens of "mystery." He visited Japan numerous times, becoming a bridge for cultural exchange between Japan and China. To commemorate the 160th anniversary of his birth, this exhibition looks back on his achievements and the era in which he lived.

Lucie Rie, *Bronze Glazed Vase*, circa 1980, Inouchi Collection (on loan to the National Museum of Crafts), Photo: Rui Shinano Lucy Rie (1902-1995), a leading ceramic artist of the 20th century, encountered the potter's wheel at the age of 19 and embarked on a career in ceramics. Since then, her insatiable curiosity has given rise to elegant forms and rich color expressions, which became increasingly refined as she continued her work from Vienna to London, presenting a new world of art to people. This exhibition unravels the trajectory of her ceramic work, which continues to fascinate us, by exploring the people and things she encountered in each place, as well as her connection to the East.

Eric Carle, Caterpillar with a Frame (PR poster soliciting donations for the opening of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art), 2002, Collection of the Eric and Barbara Carle Foundation. © 2002 Penguin Random House LLC. This exhibition is a retrospective of Eric Carle (1929-2021), one of America's leading picture book authors. His picture book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," with its varying paper sizes on each page and holes representing the caterpillar's eating, continues to be loved by children around the world. This exhibition commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Japanese edition of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and is held with the full cooperation of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Massachusetts, USA. (Examples of other works include "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" (1969) and "Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me!") The exhibition features original illustrations from 27 picture books, including "The Little Toy Ducks" (1986) and "Ten Little Toy Ducks" (2005), along with approximately 180 other items, such as works from his time as a graphic designer, dummy books created in the initial conceptual stages of ideas, and materials used for collages (colored and patterned paper). We hope you will experience the vibrant colors of the original illustrations, the ingenuity of his bookbinding as a designer, and the gentle gaze he poured into his picture books for children.
